ICRC Schedule

A preliminary schedule of ICRC meetings for discussion has been posted on the ICRC Web site: http://www.austintexas.gov/edims/document.cfm?id=190094 . Notice that although the press continues to report that the eight commissioners will take a few months to select the remaining six commissioners, the proposed schedule indicates that the selection will be made by June 14th and that those six will be sworn in on June 19th. The charter requires that the six additional commissioners be selected by June 30, 2013:

Article II, (I) (9) describes the process:
No later than June 30, 2013, and thereafter by February 28 in each year ending in the number one, the eight commissioners shall review the remaining names in the pool of applicants and, from the remaining applicants in that pool, shall appoint six applicants to the commission.  These six appointees must be approved by at least five affirmative votes among the eight commissioners.”

My interpretation of this provision is that the eight commissioners will select a slate of six additional commissioners from the 52 remaining applicants in the pool and that the slate must be approved by at least five votes. How the slate will be constructed is going to be interesting to watch.

The Web site also contains the applications of the remaining 52 eligible applicants: http://www.austintexas.gov/cityclerk/boards_commissions/meetings/116_1.htm .
